Technology Transfer
At MMCV we are charged with protecting the intellectual property associated with the college. In many cases, these innovations can be licensed, commercialized, and brought to market for society's benefit.
Successfully technology transfer has benefits for the college, companies, economies, and society as a whole. It can bring revenues that can be invested back into the college, as well as recognition of its innovators.
We partner with innovators from across the college to translate discovery into products and services that benefit society. We are here to:
-
Evaluate promising technologies within MMC's IP.
-
Protect the technology with patent, trademark or copyright filings.
-
Market them to industry with the intention of finding one or more investors interested in developing the product.
-
Negotiate license agreements with the interested parties.
-
Maintain relationships with the companies developing products based on the licensed technology.
-
Support and advise faculty in determining the optimal commercialization path.
Disclose Your Technology
Disclosing your technology is the first step in the commercialization process. All inventions made by Meharry faculty and staff are reported through our disclosure site. Only active Meharry faculty, staff, and students may complete submissions.
Upon disclosure, our team works to understand and determine if there is a commercial strategy that can be developed, and where applicable, the decision to protect the intellectual property and secure a licensing agreement.
